Saline Zine Interview

August 6, 2009

I had the opportunity to be interviewed today by a group of students working on Saline Zine. They had great questions about everything from Twitter & Facebook to what is a typical day for a Superintendent.

Is the Saline Zine available to look at ?

Is it in print, electronic or both ?

I looked for it on the 212 website but wasn’t able to locate . . .

    Thanks.

The Saline Zine was a two week long summer project that I developed along with my staff. The goal was to have kids in the 5th and 6th grade develop a magazine for and by kids. Five kids were enrolled. They worked for two weeks, four days a week for six hours a day to develop their skills in interviewing, photography, graphic design, business practices and of course, writing. They also honed their critical skills by writing food and movie reviews. Several of the students received full scholarships for the program. They had a great time. The zine is not yet in print, but is currently being printed. We expect the zine to be ready within two weeks. Mr. Graden will have copies and they will be available at the Arts Center located at 212 W. Michigan Ave.
